Yukon gold is a documentary series, for National Geographic and the History Channel, about the trials faced by several teams of gold miners in the Canadian North. Over 100 hours of footage was shot for each episode, and it was a real challenge to dig out (pun intended) and shape the story with so much to sift through.
Storage Wars Canada
Storage Wars Canada is the Canadian Version of the popular A&E series produced for OLN. It was a multi-camera shoot following 7 characters as they interacted in a busy auction setting. Although it was a format, this show was very different than the American one tending to lean on humour and drama rather than big money scores of the US show.
Redemption Inc. (for CBC) was essentially the Apprentice with ex cons. Kevin O’Leary put up $100,000 of his own money to invest in the business opportunity of an ex-con who is trying to make a fresh start. Lots of tension and lots of drama made this show fun to work on. There was also a social message to the show, which made it feel like we were doing something important.
Junk Raiders is a documentary series made for Discovery, that follows a group of individuals as they embark on an experiment in free-cycling. In 4 weeks they have to complete a major construction project with a budget of $5000, a tenth of what the job should really take. 8 characters 4 cameras and 60 hours of footage made each episode a challenge, but an entertaining one.
Storm Hunters was created by myself and a few friends and has since become one of the only long format shows airing on the Weather Network. It follows Storm Chaser Mark Robinson on his adventures in various severe weather situations. Produced on a shoestring, there were many challenges in making it, but I am quite proud of the results.
Cash & Cari
Cash & Cari was a transactional Docu-Soap for W network and HGTV that followed a Michigan woman who was in the estate sale business. This 22 minute show had on average 30 hours of footage and often as much as 4 stories in each episode. It was a juggling act to keep it compelling and interesting while still hitting all the story beats.
